An Epidemic Disease in Bombay

چکیده
almost as suddenly as it came in about two days, leaving behind no other symptom of cold except a slight congestion of the nasal mucous membrane. There is hardly any rise of temperature in most cases, a few varying between 99? to 100? F. at most. There is pronounced lassitude without marked headache or any congestion of the eyes, but some patients complain of aching of the whole body musculature; none of the joints are involved. The disinclination to work or exertion of any kind almost amounts to prostration, and this lasts for some days beyond the acute duration of the disease which may be taken as 3 to 4 days in the majority of cases. Distaste for food is very marked for some time after the onset, many people complaining of nausea at the sight of food.

Typhus in Bombay. Part I: Clinical Features
the past fifty years, had unfortunately produced an impression amongst the physicians as well as the public health personnel that typhus was not present in Bombay. It is regrettable that this false sense of security should have prevailed also in other parts of India, in spite of the fact that localized outbreaks had occurred from time to time in the mountainous regions of the north, and in the ...
متن کاملPolio
The word 1 polio' has been striking the headlines during the recent weeks in Indian newspapers. A certain amount of scare has therefore been produced in the mind of the public. It is no doubt true that a fairly large number of cases of polio have been reported in Bombay city. A few isolated cases have also been reported from other parts of India like Delhi and Calcutta. It has not yet been deci...
متن کاملON THE STABILITY AND THRESHOLD ANALYSIS OF AN EPIDEMIC MODEL
We consider a mathematical model of epidemic spread in which the population is partitioned into five compartments of susceptible S(t), Infected I(t), Removed R(t), Prevented U(t) and the Controlled W(t). We assume each of the compartments comprises of cohorts of individuals which are identical with respect to the disease status. We derive five systems of equations to represent each of the ...
متن کاملAn epidemic model for the transmission dynamics of HIV/AIDS with different clinical stages
In this paper, a five–dimensional mathematical model is proposed for the transmission dynamics of HIV/AIDS within a population of varying size. In writing the model, we have divided the population under consideration into five sub classes of susceptible, infective, pre-AIDS, AIDS related complex and that of AIDS patients. The model has two non- negative equilibria namely, a disease free and the...
متن کاملSome Observations on the Cholera Epidemic in Bombay, 1923
bombay being a great commercial centre and the largest port in the East, is always? liable to have various infectious diseases introduced from other countries. Besides being the gate-way of India, it is also a gate-way of infection for India. This has been repeatedly proved by the admission into this country of such diseases as plague, influenza, etc., during the last few years through Bombay. ...
متن کاملStability and Bifurcation of an SIS Epidemic Model with Saturated Incidence Rate and Treatment Function
In this paper an SIS epidemic model with saturated incidence rate and treatment func- tion is proposed and studied. The existence of all feasible equilibrium points is discussed. The local stability conditions of the disease free equilibrium point and endemic equilibrium point are established with the help of basic reproduction number. However the global stabili- ty conditions of these eq...
